After Salone del Mobile in Milano and Maison d' Objet in Paris this year you really feel like you have seen it all. That was until I went to Clerkenwell Design week in London and I have to say attending this show is one of my favourites. The main reasons are that it is very manageable and also wonderfully unique. You walk the different areas of Clerkenwell and attend all the different halls like Platform, Design Fields, Icon House of Culture and then wander around the showrooms scattered throughout different areas that are flowing with prosecco and new collections. You can do this over two days with ease. Of course I visited our current brands such as Poltrona Frau, Moroso, Thonet, and Bert Frank in the exhibitions and in their showrooms.

Milano. Every year I get hyped up to go the best designer furniture show in the world. Networking. Such a general term for probably the most important aspect of business. While I may be in the office most of my day, my real job starts in the evenings when I attend events or go to my favourite members club, the Arts Club on Dover Street, which is in the heart of Mayfair. Safeer, my business partner, and I always seem to find ourselves networking at least once or twice a week. It usually starts off with a few drinks and by the end of the evening we have connected with people we would not have expected to meet. I will never forget the day when James Henderson, CEO of Bell Pottinger, overheard Safeer and I discussing The Longest Stay in the Arts Club. James popped over and said "I have heard of you, you're like Net A Porter but for home. I love your website and I think I can help you with a few introductions."

Someone asked me "Why are you going to the world's largest property show in Cannes next week?" My answer was simple "please tell me why I shouldn't be going? I am in the business of selling designer furniture and I go where the opportunities are." We also have a digital magazine and have to bring the latest news and trends in this space such as the development of properties across the globe. This can be hotels, villas, high end residential complexes. This same person said "oh I didn't know you did procurement." I said " Well our online site looks very interesting to many developers, interior designers and architects since it shows such a large range of products and our unique style. Of course we do procurement." With that statement, Safeer and I hit the MIPIM show with gusto and a mission to conquer as many opportunities as possible.

For those that know me, when I haven't published a diary for a while, you may imagine the following: I have been hit by a car, I am stranded, or I simply have no internet access. This is what one would think. But in all honesty that wasn't the case, I will totally admit that I was on holiday at the famous Disney World. Don't laugh too hard. I even liked it. At times it felt like I was stranded, surrounded by a truly unusual environment and well out of my element. Even in Disney all I did was either critique the enormous amount of yellow food, how the rides were even designed and the interiors of spaces and hotels. I can never leave the world of design even if it feels like I am supposed to. I took more photos of interiors than family photos and even got into the detail of how much money was spent on a Harry Potter ride which had such an impressive design and virtual reality experience.  However, I do remember texting as I jumped onto Space Mountain and bringing a portable charger for my phone to receive and send emails, which I did constantly. One never really switches off no matter how hard we try.

This week guest blogger Martyn White takes us into the world of luxurious living.

My first in a series of features from 1508 London are the unbelievably beautiful interior designs of Project Pearl. I have been a huge fan of 1508 for some time and it was when they shared their designs with me that I fell in love with them instantly. Associated at the very pinnacle of luxury, every project has a unique character and a sense of grandeur on an unprecedented scale.

One hell of a day and I sincerely mean that. I am now trying to remember all I did today and share it with you so if you are considering becoming an entrepreneur you know what a Monday looks like. This happens to be the day before I am flying to NYC but that doesn't matter. I sent over 27 emails between 6am - 1130am. I counted. I went on camera for 1.5 hours today to be interviewed as a mentor for future entrepreneurs. I had to go from Chelsea to the city during all of this and walk in the wind, rain and freezing cold. I actually had no idea I was going to be interviewed on camera for the Rockstar app and thought it was just a discussion. I was pleasantly surprised to hear I was one of about three women and the other two are multi millionaire role models for all of us females, Lara Morgan and Sherry Coutu. However, I’m sad that there are only three of us. So maybe that puts me in the running to have success like the other two:-)

This time next week I will be presenting at the United Nations. I can honestly say I am not yet fully prepared mentally or physically. Meaning I am not ready to be immersed in the New England cold and haven't accepted that there are going to be over 2,000 members of state sitting in the room. I don't think this is going to get any better in the next few days, in fact, it’ll probably heighten.

It's the end of the week. I could hardly believe we have hit Friday. It feels like yesterday Georgina and I were at Maison & Objet in Paris sourcing great product. This week we looked over our new 50 brands and thought about where to begin adding new product, updating current brands and pricing. A small team but with power. I must say I noticed that other competitors have teams of 15 and higher, we are 5. We produce our own in house magazine, have 250 brands, 7,000 products and trade globally. We also work with architects, interior designers and property developers on all size projects. So it is busy, fun and very challenging.  When I see others copying something we have done, I sort of smile and say wow that just gave me a nice boost.

I love visiting Paris and when you tie it to such a great show like Maison & Objet it doesn’t get much better. The show exhibits thousands of European furniture interiors and some fashion brands. Recently, we wrote about Top Drawer in London and I suppose that show could fit in one hall at Maison & Objet. Walking the halls of 5B, 7 and 8 is the highlight at the Parc Des Expositions, which is just outside of Paris, but there is also much more to see.

Today was Top Drawer, the homes interiors and fashion show for artisans at Olympia. Georgina and I walked the aisles and spotted a few good finds for the site. Especially a candle collection. It was great to touch base with Gurasu, Culinary Concepts and Coach House all brands we know well and have either on our site or have recommended in projects. This year's show was the best because it merged with several other shows which gave it a lot more substance and variety than previous years.

None of us can believe how fast the week goes by. It feels just as we are back in on Monday we all comment "Is it already Thursday?" T has been embedded in spreadsheets all week, uploading, downloading and amending product, all to go on our site. He has finished the upload of 150 styles of TLS lighting, all with short lead times and unusual designs. Some imported from the USA. We are all proud of this new addition to our site.

Our offices are in the most divine space off the Kings Road, a very chic mews house and we share them with the likes of Oliver Proudlock from Made in Chelsea and about 4 dogs that roam the corridors tied to the owners of other like minded businesses. Donut my Shih Tzu being one of the best behaved if I do say myself but of course I am her mother. In all seriousness my dog lives in Zen. Has her own private sofa of course by The Longest Stay and sleeps during most of the day and only begs T for a treat for time to time. Overall she is our office companion and makes all of us just that big softer and reminds us we are all living a life.

"I'm brave. British people won't go out there and publicly air anything really". This is what I was told today by a potential British investor after establishing The Longest Stay Diary is something that "I want to share." I said "maybe it is the America vibe in me or maybe I just have balls the size of Gibraltar" which my friend Faizia always says. Either way we won't be revealing our deepest strategies or personal info, I just feel it is good to hear the notes of a startup in real time.  A true entrepreneur sees the signs they are on the right road. They witness miracles, and get confirmation all will be ok when on the cliff. Then the entrepreneur just learns to listen, surrender and ride the journey. I'm still learning that.  But I have had a lot of practice and I am hopeful.
