Salone del Mobile 2017: The Highlights

The 56th edition of Salone del Mobile took place last week and The Longest Stay was there to soak up inspiration from all of the fabulous exhibitions, including ones from several of our very own brands. From Adrenalina, Ginger & Jagger and Insidherland to Delightfull, Boca do Lobo, Bomma and more – there was an eclectic range of brands to see, all boasting beautiful stands with stunning designer furniture pieces. Some of our favourite stands from the week are pictured below.

Held in Milan, the furniture trade show, which takes place annually and is the largest of its kind, played host to over 2000 exhibitors from all over the world. In keeping with its reputation as an unrivalled platform for quality and innovation in design, this year’s event showcased new products as well as favourites and bestsellers from previous seasons. Along with established brands, the week also gives the opportunity for up-and-coming designers to exhibit their work at Salone Satellite.

Many brands this year chose to highlight bold modern furniture pieces in their stands, resulting in exhibitions that were incredibly eye catching. Adrenalina’s stunning ball pit inspired display definitely caught our attention, with its vibrant reds, oranges and yellows and oversized luxury chairs creating a playful and youthful atmosphere.

Moroso also exhibited striking colours in their furniture pieces, with exotic colours enveloping a stylish and fun vibe. The blue of the coffee table especially draws the eye, and creates a striking juxtaposition with the warmer colours in the display, notably the red and purple armchairs. Moroso’s signature quirky yet elegant style is highlighted through the curvatures in lines, especially in the coffee tables, which would make the perfect additions for homes in need of a chic, modern and slightly eccentric touch.

Many designers created extremely innovative products for Salone del Mobile 2017, but one of the most attention grabbing displays was that of Flos. Their stand was styled with an array of mirrors which were framed with a striking lighting element, creating a surreal space that tricked your eye. The simplistically designed mirrors made for a fantastic presentation that brought everyone in for a closer look.

Designer lighting was a key feature in many different stands, from Bomma, Innermost and Brokis to Lasvit, SkLO and Ango. Ango’s presentation especially stood out, with its mesmerising lighting pieces having been cleverly angled to appear flying through the space. We love their almost futuristic aesthetic.

Kettal’s stand linked perfectly with one of the themes of the show; ‘Contemporary Elegance.’ The minimally designed space pairs its pastel and neutral base colours with more vibrant shades in accent pieces, like the cushions which project an intense red-brown tone. This style exudes a modest opulence, making for a look that, having beautifully combined modernity with a sophisticated aesthetic, is ideal for inspiration for contemporary homes.

Many brands recreated living spaces, including both Poltrona Frau and Moissonnier. While the brands’ exhibitions were strikingly different, with Poltrona Frau taking on an understated pastel look with some vibrant accent features, and Moissonnier embracing bold colours and quirky designs, they both exude an elegant style. Another similarity is their use of greenery in their stands, which not only helps to create a homey feel overall, but the green of the plants interestingly complements both of the stands’ colour palettes.

Lots of brands made use of warm metals in their displays, including Boco do Lobo, who presented a stunning exhibition with copper furniture and home accessories. The brand’s intricately designed sideboard, which boasts beautiful copper embellishments on its doors, and gorgeous dining table with a delicately designed copper base, effortlessly complement each other with their corresponding metal features.
