Martyn White: 1508 London's Project Pearl

This week guest blogger Martyn White takes us into the world of luxurious living.

My first in a series of features from 1508 London are the unbelievably beautiful interior designs of Project Pearl. I have been a huge fan of 1508 for some time and it was when they shared their designs with me that I fell in love with them instantly. Associated at the very pinnacle of luxury, every project has a unique character and a sense of grandeur on an unprecedented scale.

The team had the impressive task of refurbishing a ground and lower ground floor apartment in the exclusive location of Belgravia, London. Already steeped in character, the brief of the project was to restore the classical period features whilst introducing a fresh and contemporary feel to the space. Modern materials, elegant finishes and a selective soft colour palette create an incredible timeless feeling to the space.

The tall ceilings and large windows are prominent throughout the property and the team have made full use of this within the designs. As you can see from the formal living space, natural lighting fills the room, reflected by the light and soft colour palette which creates a fresh and welcoming feeling. Regency period features such at the intricate ceiling decorations and wall panelling have all been reinstated, completing the look and preserving the original charm of the space.

A kitchen can be a challenging space to design in a traditional property. All the latest luxury appliances are needed yet there still needs to be reference back to the traditional values and style of the surrounding rooms. The designers have succeeded with this beautiful hand made kitchen by 202 Design. The cupboard doors reflect that of the original paneling design and the Bardiglio marble continues the flow of luxurious and characterful materials throughout the apartment.

The images above are perfect examples of the exquisite detailing that can be seen throughout the apartment. The centrepiece of the formal living and dining area is a large 24-arm ornate glass, silver and crystal Marie Thérèse chandelier. Whilst a centrepiece to the room, the presence of such a large chandelier does not overpower this space or detract attention from other smaller details in the room. There is a perfect balance of detail that runs throughout this whole design that is extremely hard to achieve, revealing the capabilities and talent of the 1508 team.

One of my favourite spaces in the apartment is the Library and informal sitting room. Adjacent to the formal sitting room, it is as if you are transported into a completely different place and time. Surrounded by limed-oak panelling and soft comforts, there is an intimate presence that makes this area the perfect getaway for some much needed relaxation. The traditional polished-oak flooring and decorative ceiling continue the flow of design throughout the property and connect formal and informal together.

As you walk into the master bedroom, you are immediately greeted by a mirrored wall with antique finish. Each side has been decorated with elegant wooden detailing in reference to the original period features of the house. The overall room has a softer, contemporary feel with the use of lighter browns, cream and stone. Leading from the master bedroom is the dressing room. With floor to ceiling custom built wardrobes, there is a connection to the library with the use of the same limed oak wood with the addition of inset leather panels. The central double door leads us through to the en suite bathroom, magnificently clad in a gorgeous Statuario marble. We see the familiar sight of the limed oak wood used for the cupboards and draws which helps soften the marble and create an inviting feel to the interior.

It has been an absolute pleasure discovering the designs of 1508. These inspirational interior designs are examples of just what can be achieved within new luxury design, combining traditional values with the modern world. I look forward to discovering and sharing even more designs from 1508 soon!
