Scandinavian brand Gubi are the treasure hunters of our generation. Based in Copenhagen's docklands, and fuelled by a passion to uncover overlooked icons from the past and future icons in the making, Gubi are a serious design force receiving international recognition for their work. The result is an eclectic, international collection that blurs the lines between the past and the future, chasing forgotten icons from the 30's to the 70's. Mathieu Matégot (1910-2001) started producing handmade furniture, after his release from the French Army in 1944, with a unique style. Matégot was the first person to combine metal tubing with perforated sheet metal, a pairing that particularly characterizes his work. In just over a decade Matégot's designs achieved an iconic status, with his Nagasaki Chair being the best-known design, which is now held in Vitra's Design Museum in Germany.
