British artist Thomas Dowdeswell creates artwork where politics and social commentary are inextricably intertwined. Dowdeswell grew up in a treasure trove of radios, gramophones, records, guitars and paintings that included copies of artworks by Franz Marc, Van Gogh, and Otto Dix. These fine works of art sat masterfully alongside countless books on Impressionism, all of which would form a strong foundation on Dowdeswell's art practice. However, his destiny as an artist was further decided when a family tragedy forced him to go through his father's own paintings. He comments, "painting was an exploration, a therapy session and a bright and joyous connection to memories of a bygone age."
